Christmas Eve... Not sure about everyone else, but I have three people who are getting VERY excited! Hopefully people take time though to explain the TRUE meaning of Christmas, I'm sure not many do though...
To a LOT of people, Christmas IS about gifts, food and socializing... Sad, but that is what it has turned into. Christmas is about giving though, but for way too many, they forget about the most important gift that was given... Hopefully everyone has a GREAT day, I'll be attempting to finish that kitchen since we DO have people coming over for dinner tomorrow. We'll see how that works out for me... :)

Trivia: Why do we decorate evergreen trees at Christmas time? No Googling... :)
I know it dates back to Germany in the 1500's, but without "googling" I don't recall exactly the "tradition" of decorating trees.
Jeremiah 10:2-4: "Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not." (KJV).
that popped up on yahoo.. hey, i didn't 'google'!
I'm liking all the ornament pictures :)
not sure about the evergreens, I'm sure I'll google it later though
I didn't even know that verse was in the Bible, huh - a good reason I guess then.
I like Titus' answer. I concur. lol
Merry Christmas!!! My kids are SO excited too. We are going to open one gift tonight and do our Christmas Eve tradition of singing as many Christmas carols as we can (we have a songbook with lots in it). :)
And now I have to go out yet again - forgot to get a couple things for my Christmas breakfast - I try to always make a big breakfast after the stockings and before the gifts. :)
After reading that passage, it almost sounds like it wasn't a good idea... Thoughts??
Yeah, I'm HARD at work, there is nothing going on... :)
I AM chained to my desk though, I wonder what else I'll stumble across on the internet over the next five hours? :)
The more I look at it, I don't think that Jeremiah 10:2-4 has anything to do with a Christmas tree... I think it is talking about wood, carving idols out of wood specifically... I'll stick with the Martin Luther theory... :)
Yes, I haven't taken time to look at the passage Titus posted until today. That is talking about cutting down trees to create idols out of the wood - creating false gods which are worshipped. It has nothing to do with a "Christmas Tree" (Unless you actually worship the Christmas tree that is).
Just read the rest of the passage, verse 5 tells how that the "false gods" cannot speak. How we have no need to be afraid of them because they cannot do anything.
Verse 10 talks about how the only true God is the Lord God Jehovah. And then the passage goes on to tell of the doom of the false "gods" created out of wood and precious metals.
