Taxes...

How hard is it?? I hear people at work talking about it, I hear people on the radio talking about it, but it takes an hour or so unless you are an idiot! Three or four hours at most if you want to double check everything a dozen times...

I normally do my taxes earlier, but for some reason didn't get around to it until now... I reached into the bin where I put all the documents I've accumulated over the past year, and yeah, I have just as many as anyone else, if not more, and typed in the information into the software program... It really only took about thirty minutes, but I'm anal, so I double checked everything about three times and then hit file... It just makes me wonder about the people who say taxes take them hours or days... They either have to be complete morons, or they don't know where any of their documents are, or they are trying to cheat. Astounding!!

Yeah, I have a business as well, it was still easy as hell... I think the people who clamor about it taking them days and days to do their taxes are just cheating, period!

LOL!! I must be an idiot then, because we took them to someone to have them do it. :D And they cost us an arm and a leg to do it! :D

I think next year we shall go out on our own. But we shall have a new house and that will be interesting. :D

What software did you end up using?

LOL! I use TaxCut myself, although I have tried them all in the past...

Yeah - I've used TurboTax for the last 5 years or so....piece of cake really.

Although I did get a letter from the IRS saying my 2006 return was audited and I owe more money - but I think they got some stock option information messed up or something.....so, now I have to figure all that out.

I use TaxCut or Turbo Tax (I check with each of them online each year - sometimes I get a bigger rebate with one or the other). And even checking it on BOTH software it doesn't take more than an hour or so to completely file.

Jackie - I was wondering who paid all that money to have someone else do it. ;) Try the software next time - it makes it SUPER easy! :)

Oh, and I did our taxes the DAY we got our w2 in January. We had our refund by February 1st.

LeRoy does ours, he does some of the stuff here but has an accountant look it over before we file. I don't think we use software but I know we don't cheat :) must just be idiots :P.

LOL! Everyone does it different, but I guess if everyone did it all the same, it would be a pretty boring world! :)

Yeah, I know I use 'LOL' a lot! I was reading somewhere where someone wanted to know if when you actually post that, you are actually laughing out loud, and the answer for the most part when I type 'LOL' is yes, so I'm justified I suppose! :)

I know what you mean about the LOL. I do LOL too, which does get some looks sometimes :P

You are all right! Next year we will probably go at it ourselves. I had just heard so many conflicting reports about whether or not you get more back as filing as single people or filing jointly. We wanted to be sure. Now that I think about it, who knows for next, year. During this move, there is so much that is considered "tax deductable" because I work from home. All the hotels we have stayed in, gas to go up there and look at houses, hotels.... So, we want to make sure we get as many deductions as we can. I am tired of paying so much to the govt!! :D LOL!! :D (I couldn't resist!)

A little late on the reply here... :) I think filing jointly is better, what did your tax preparer say? I'm sure it's different in your case as opposed to mine though, just curious. The tax code is complicated, but if you look at it, our legislators write it to benifit them! Which is why we 'started a business' last year!! Might as well take advantage of all the tax breaks our legislators 'slip in' for themselves... :)
